Can you have too much of a good thing…or of anything?
If you ate at your favorite restaurant everyday you would most likely gain weight, become bored, and be missing out on the chance to discover an even better dining experience.
Doing anything to an extreme is limiting (even things that are really good for you). Life is meant to be savored – all of it.
If, for example you only eat super clean and healthy then you would miss out of some of life’s greatest experiences like the delicious taste of the best French toast in town (especially if you live near Max’s Harvest in Delray and YES, I just indulged there myself this past weekend).
This topic is very near and dear to my heart since I have recently opened up a whole new version of myself to bring more balance into my own life. Up until 6 months ago, I was only eating super clean, hadn’t watched television in 7 years and stopped drinking (even vino) and then it hit me… Life is about balance…enjoying the richness (with awareness & discipline) all of it. Not about the “NO ‘s” but about the “YES ‘s” and that is how you achieve true BALANCE in your life.
So where do you start if you want to achieve more balance in your life?
1.) Do an assessment. Break down your life into several categories and rate yourself. (on a scale of 1-10, one being the lowest rating and ten being the highest).
Health, Relationships, Spirituality/God, Career, Finances, Adventure, Love, Home, etc
2.) Set Boundaries. Decide what you are willing to let go of to create more time and space for what matters most. (ie: weekly dates with your hubby instead of hanging out on facebook, etc)
3.) Let go of the pressure to become perfect. You are perfectly imperfect and so is everyone else. Just by having a greater awareness you are on your way to more balance. (Phew, that’s a big relief, right?)
4.) Ask others for help. People love to feel needed so why not give someone else the opportunity to feel good. (The giver gets as much or more than the receiver).
5.) Do something out of your “normal” zone. Be wild and crazy if you are normally conservative (that could be singing karoke or wearing one of the new neon colors). Speak up if you are normally quiet or be humbly quiet if you normally are bold & outspoken.
Always Believe,
Wendi
