Ever think about retiring early?
My guest, Harry Weiss, who is also my husband {yes, I have asked him to do an interview for several years now} was a man before his own time. He was hired as a toy buyer for Boscov’s Department Store out of college. As the story goes {he tells it much better than I do} Harry asked his boss for a $25 a week raise which he was turned down for. It took courage for Harry to walk away from a successful career to start a business even though it was in the same industry, to go on his own.
Here are Harry’s top 3 reasons why he was successful and able to retire early.
1.) Relationships. You need to know the right people in your industryand have a good rapport with them.
2.) You need to be willing to ask for help. You can’t do it by yourself.
3.) You have to took try new things and take risks. You have to be willing to experiment with new ideas and concepts.
Ten years later Harry was able to retire early at the age of 43. He also throws in that he did “get lucky” with timing. As the saying goes, sometimes timing is everything. WATCH BELOW:
I really enjoyed this engaging interview. Always interesting to get a new perspective from someone who’s “been there done that”. You two have a very good rapport – look forward to more of what you share.
One of my favorite interviews. Harry is SO HUMBLE and brilliant. What a great story, PAYING OFF THE BUS DRIVERS! Love your sweet heart and smile at your hubby.
Hi. Enjoyed hearing Harry’s story He made it sound somewhat simple but did add it was a lot of hard work when he was working. Of course it was. The best part for me was his statement regarding having few wants. How blessed are we who can say that and I totally get the pastrami sandwich. Stay healthy. xo
