Let’s face it these days if you are shopping for a new lipstick, the choices are endless. Not only can you choose between dozens of colors but there are so many shades and textures too. Then you have to narrow your decision down to just one (or perhaps two) while being seduced with flashy packaging and convincing sales people.
Here is the frightening part, what if you buy the wrong lipstick and it falls short of your expectations? Yikes, what if it is the wrong shade? Holy smokes, now what?
Everyone is so stressed out these days and living in complete overwhelm, shopping for a lipstick should be a walk in the park. But it just isn’t so anymore. I bought a lipstick earlier today and it isn’t nearly as simple as it used to be. Times, they are a changing and there is a brand new world out there. Are you prepared? Are you still doing business the same old way (cause many people are and it isn’t working)?
That is why it is incredibly difficult for so many people to make decisions these days (fear, anxiety, and overwhelm kicks in). Most people are walking around in information overload, stressed to the max, filled with fear and ready to collapse with exhaustion (all that information makes you tired).
Too many decisions leads to no decisions.
Now is the time to bring things back to basics and the K.I.S.S principle…Keep it Simple Sweetheart!
After being in sales most of my life I had gotten away from teaching sales courses but I recently had a change of heart and am back in the ring again to share proven sales strategies for today’s new economy. Many businesses are struggling, stuck in the old way of thinking and close to having to shut their doors. It doesn’t have to be that way and I am committed to helping them turn things around. Below I share 3 strategies that will help improve both the buying and selling experience (it gives a fuller perspective to look at the buying cycle from both angles).
Strategy #1- If you are on the buying side and have to make a lipstick decision, adapt the TOT strategy- Only consider two options, This or That! It is either the dark one or the light one. If you are on the selling side, use the TOT strategy and only offer 1 or 2 simplified options.
Strategy #2- Define your timeline. For example I made my lipstick decision in the Denver airport walking to the passenger pick up section to catch my ride which gave me less than 5 minutes to make a decision. Setting time parameters puts boundaries in place and helps both buyers and sellers move decisions along promptly.
Strategy #3- Lastly, decide to make a decision no matter what. This will eliminate the possibility of procrastinating or putting things off. I wanted that lipstick so I jumped on that opportunity to get it down quickly so that I could move on to more important matters. Help your clients make decisions quickly by inspiring them to come to a conclusion regardless of what it is so that they can move forward in their business.
