Do you know what you don’t want? I sure did and I grew up focusing on it.
I knew exactly what I didn’t want and I decided that my life experience would be different. Hah, that plan really backfired. Here is the paradox and what usually happens. You start to make a mental list of things you don’t want.
I don’t want to fail. I don’t want to be broke. I don’t want to be alone. I don’t want screwed up relationships. I don’t want to be in pain. I don’t want “that” life. You have a long list of things you want to avoid and you start mentally reciting the list over and over again. I don’t want this…I don’t want that. You are rehearsing your future script and creating your life’s story each time you play the negative scene in your head (heavy stuff, right?).
Now before we go too deep here, I am going to pause and share a Universal law that I knew nothing about back then: The power of…”The Law of Attention” which goes like this: “That which you focus on you draw into your existence, both positive and negative.”
Holy crap! That means if you focus on what you don’t want you actually put out a special request to the cosmos via your vibration to bring the negative stuff right back to you (manifesting lots of unwanted junk by default).
Life is like a mirror. What you see and focus on comes back to you but sometimes dressed up as a slightly different version so you don’t always recognize it or make the connection.
Here is the good news – you can reverse the trend anytime you change your thoughts, words, feelings, and ultimately your vibration. Yep, you can change the results you are getting by “re-framing” what you don’t want to what you do want. Here are a few examples:
I don’t want to be unhealthy – I choose to be healthy, fit, and in great shape.
I don’t want to another dysfunctional relationship – I wish I could be in a loving, respectful, healthy relationship.
I don’t want another lousy job – I see myself in a fabulous career working with people that I enjoy spending time with.
I intentionally wrote each scenario a bit differently. “I wish,” “I choose,” and “I see.” I believe it is vitally important to come from an authentic place that resonates with your own belief system. All three phrases send out a positive vibration and it is up to you to decide how to phase your desires. At the end of the day, if you can switch your attention to what you do want and not what you don’t want, you will see results.
Live Each Moment Fully…

Wendi, thank you for your blog. It arrived as I was teetering on some financial worries. I still find it difficult to feel really genuine emotional trust when I say affirmations. I visualize and affirm but past experience has been so heavy that it feels like I’m faking the emotion, and I guess I am. The truth is as we know, (as we learned from our parents “you shouldn’t feel that way!”, no one can tell us how to feel, we just feel. I would love some more input on this dilemma!
Eyup. It is true. I knew this “law” and kept visualizing what I thought I want, at the same time I kept saying “I don’t want another bookkeeping job where I just sit behind a computer all day and look at numbers.” And, low and behold, that is exactly what I do. But, I got the environment and people I wanted – positive and supportive.
